Quick fix for stuck pegs on a violin?
I've decided to tune all my instruments today, and my pegs are stuck!
I don't have any peg dope, and I'm dealing with some 300 year+ instruments here.
I'm a kid, too, so I can't just go out and buy something.
Is there anything that might work?
Right, now whatever you do, don't FORCE it! You can damage the wood. But remember that the violin isn't a delicate piece of wood that can't be handled. Just don't be rough with it. Now, my violin gets stuck a lot as well. What I do usually is first twist the peg back to loosen the string and then back to tighten it further than you loosened it. That usually works for me.
You may look into getting a lubricant suitable for the peg. Try using a powder of some sort. Maybe baking soda. But not flour. if water gets to the flour its like cement and then you'll be in a real fix. Hope that works out for ya. Don't pull all your hair out trying to solve this.
