Are Belt & chain drives more effective in driving a turboshaft of a helicopter?
No mfg. that I know of uses belts or chains from a turbine engine. I have only seen belts used on piston engine rotor craft like the Scorpion, Bell model 47, model 30, Rotorway, and a bunch of kits. I have seen a Rotor turbine conversion project that used belts but don't know if it ever flew. I have never seen a helicopter that utilizes a chain drive of any kind. way too much weight and rotational mass.
Like Turq said direct drive is the only way to go with turbo-shaft.
